Admittance

> admission and admittance
admission and admittance both mean "permission or right to enter". Admission is the more common term, as in "They refused him admission to their house", and, unlike admittance, it can also mean "the price or fee charged for entry" as in "Admission to the football match is ú3". Admittance is largely used in formal or official situations, as in "They ignored the notice saying "No Admittance" ". Admission also means "confession" or "acknowledgement of responsibility", as in "On her own admission she was the thief".
