Council

council and counsel sound alike but have different meanings. Council refers to "an assembly of people meeting for discussion, consultation, administrative purposes, etc", as in "the town council" and "a community council". Counsel means "advice", as in "She received wise counsel from her parents but ignored it". Counsel is also a verb meaning "to give advice to", as in he counselled him on possible careers", "She was counselled against leaving school without qualifications".
