graffiti

> graffiti
graffiti is frequently misspelt. Note the double f and single t. The word is used of "unofficial writing and drawings, often of an obscene nature, on the walls of public places", as in "trying to clean the graffiti from the walls of the public toilets". Graffiti is Italian in origin and is actually the plural form of graffito, meaning a single piece of writing or drawing, but this is now hardly ever used in English.
