paraphernalia means "all the bits and pieces of equipment required for something", as in "all the paraphernalia needed to take a baby on holiday", "put his angling paraphernalia in the car". Strictly speaking it is a plural noun but it is now frequently used with a singular verb, as in "The artist's paraphernalia was lying all over the studio". Paraphernalia is liable to be misspelt. Note the er before the n.
