peaceable

> peaceable and peaceful
peaceable and peaceful are interchangeable in some meanings. Both peaceable and peaceful can mean "not quarrelsome or aggressive, peace-loving", as in "He is a peaceable person but his neighbours are always trying to pick a quarrel" and "peaceful nations unwilling to go to war". They can also both mean "without fighting or disturbance, non-violent", as in "try to reach a peaceable settlement" and "take part in a peaceful demonstration". Peaceful means "characterized by peace, calm, quiet", as in "a peaceful spot for a quiet holiday" and peaceful country scene". Peaceable is frequently misspelt. Note the e before the second a and note the-able, not -ible, ending.
