portray is liable to be misspelt. Note the first r. It means "to paint or draw", as in "The queen was portrayed in her coronation robes"; "to describe", as in "In his autobiography his father is portrayed as a bully"; "and to act the part of", as in "The actress portrayed Desdemona in Othello".
