X-ray is usually written with an initial capital letter when it is a noun meaning "a photograph made by means of X-rays showing the bones or organs of the body", as in "take an X-ray of the patient's chest". Another term for the noun X-ray is "radiograph". As a verb it is also usually spelt with an initial capital, as "After the accident he had his leg X-rayed", but it is sometimes spelt with an initial lower-case letter, as in "have his chest x-rayed".
